After a great deal of thought and discussion (I first wrote about this idea in an Aug/09 Blog, here) I am happy to announce that The Movable Feast Online Street Gallery will Open on Saturday, May 8th 2010! That’s one week before the May Arts Crawl.

This Gallery will exist online. One night a month, on Arts Crawl night, it will manifest itself somewhere in a real storefront. I will announce the location of each month’s Street Gallery when that month’s online Gallery Opens, the 1st Saturday of each month. Pieces in the Gallery will only appear in real-life once. Each month will feature a curated gallery of 18 to 24 new pieces. These pieces will be available for purchase online one week prior to the Arts Crawl however they may not be physically removed from the Gallery until after they have appeared at the Arts Crawl, perhaps with a ‘Sold’ sign on them.

Items that appear in the Street Gallery will grow the Online Gallery continuously. Once an item enters the Online Gallery it will NEVER be removed, only it’s disposition will change. The (digitally watermarked) piece will appear and be marked For Sale, until they are marked as Sold or Returned to Artist (after 3 months) or subsequently, Sold by Artist but the images will always remain in the online Gallery which will grow continuously over time and form a living archive and catalogue of everything that ever appears in the Street Gallery.

It’s a beautiful concept and here’s the icing on the Movable Feast’s cake: Nothing can be purchased in the Street Gallery. There will be no way to buy anything from The Movable Feast Online Street Gallery, except by doing so online. Online sales will be possible in the Street Gallery but cash, cheques, credit cards are so ‘last century’ that they will not be useful.
